About Me

Hi!  My name is Mr. Ervin, and I will be your 7th Grade ELA (English/Language Arts) teacher this year.  I’m so excited to be a part of this team, but most of all, I am ECSTATIC to be your teacher! It is going to be a year full of amazing learning adventures and exciting new challenges. I am sure we are going to have a fantastic time together! I want to know all about you, but first, a little about me.

I was raised in Deer Park, TX, the older of two children.  After graduating from Deer Park High School, I attended Sam Houston State University (Eat Em’ Up Kats!) to pursue my degree in English/Creative Writing, then spent the next 10 years working for a church in Bellaire, TX as their youth director and then as their Communications and Technology director. My parents, knowing that I had long talked about being a teacher, gave my sister and I the gift of going back to school for our teacher’s certificates. Once I finished, I worked at Carpenter Elementary for 5 years. And now, I've moved up to teach 7th grade RLA and Journalism at Bonnette.

My wife, Chrissy, and I just celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary in the first part of August. She is my best friend and I love her dearly. We share two of the most awesome children ever, Gabriel (20) and Benton (17).  Gabriel is a sophomore in college, while Benton is an 12th grader at DPHS South.

I treat my classes like we are family and I’m a BIG believer in respect. We will work hard together, complete goals, overcome obstacles, give advice, keep open minds, and most importantly, open our hearts to a new learning adventure. In the words of Thomas Edison, “Opportunity is missed by most people because it looks like work and is dressed in overalls.”

We will spend this year together working through challenges with one another and embarking on wonderful learning adventures each and every day.  You never know what’s going to happen in my class!  So, welcome, I’m glad you’re here!
